We were delighted to be asked to ring a very different tune last Sunday. Though on Sundays our prime purpose is to call people to worship, we were able to oblige the Lowland and Northumbrian Pipers without interfering with our Sunday ringing.
The Pipers were holding a large convention in the Tontine Hotel and had discovered that long ago the Peebles Piper woke the town with, it is thought, a rendition of the tune ‘Salmon Tails’. We were able to make some slight adaptations to the tune and rung it at 9.25am and again after the service. The Pipers are happy for us to add this tune to our repertoire and, who knows, we may wake the town up on Beltane Saturday with just that very tune !
